The 2009 exhibits an almost opaque blue/black color and is saturated to the rim. Aromas of sweet Maduro tobacco, ripe blackberry and Jasmine waft from the glass and evolve to show aromas of dry chaparral and native herbs; fennel, licorice and chemise.

The wine has considerable density but is framed by tannic structure from its hillside upbringing and ample acidity from its proximity to the cool of the Russian River Valley below.

The middle of this wine begins with saturated black fruit and rotates seamlessly into secondary flavors of damp earth, cedar and graphite. The finish is long and intricate with cleansing acidity that pulls you back. Drinking well now but anticipated maturity window should extend from 2020-2030 with proper cellaring. Recommend standing upright 24 hours prior to decanting off the natural sediment that occurs with this unfiltered and un-fined wine.

Although the wine is un-rated at present, we believe that the wine is the best Creo produced in our short history, surpassing the 2007 and 2008 vintages.

Tasting Notes:

The 2012 Requiem is a beautiful golden yellow. It has notes of lemon curd, smoke and ginger on the nose. In the mouth, there are flavors of golden apple, pear and citrus. The palate is richly textured, deep and chewy, while finishing with refreshing acidity. Serve wine slightly chilled

Production Notes:

The grapes were whole cluster pressed and settled in tank for 24 hours. The juice was then transferred to a combination of used and new French Oak barrels for fermentation. The wine spent a total of 17 months in barrel, lending to the richly textured wine. The wine was not fined or cold-stabilized, but since it did not go through Malo-lactic Fermentation it was filtered prior to bottling.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon

The brilliant 2007 vintage yielded a wine of tremendous depth and balance from the Clajeux Vineyard. A nearly opaque garnet hue with blue and purple tint leads to lofty aromas of roasted black currant, mingled with violets and fresh cut tobacco. On the palate the wine is dense and structured with underlying minerality and smooth tannins that are supported by ample natural acidity, hallmarks of the relatively cool site. Drinkable now to extended barrel ageing (30 months) this wine should also continue to improve with proper cellaring.

100% Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2008 Clajeux Cabernet is deep purple with a garnet edge, displaying aromas of liquorice  and graphite intermixed with damp red earth, dried violets and savoury herbs. It is a medium full bodied wine with a deep mid palate loaded with notes of black cherries, liquorice  and cassis. Finish is long and complex with underpinnings of red volcanic earth, baking spices and chalky herbs. The Clajeux Vineyard's location above chalk hill valley imparts structure and natural acidity that will allow this wine to age gracefully for decades. Ideal drinking window 2014 - 2025.

Sauvignon Blanc

This wine has lifted aromatics of lychee and pear with hints of grass. The palate offers a rich and soft texture, lent by the barrel fermentation, which is followed by a fresh acidity. This wine is unfiltered and un-fined and this explains the turbidity. Enjoy this Sauvignon Blanc slightly chilled.
